Another significant moment...

Jay-Z's D.O.A

Are YOUR colours too bright? Notice what was blown up last? Since 1996, he has dictated what trends are in, and what trends have expired. Put a needle here, we'll get back to that.

Spaceship

Spaceship from kwest on Vimeo.

To think Kanyeezy said he directed this and scrapped it 4 years ago because he didn't like it.

"I went to Jacob an hour after I got my advance/ I just wanted to shine!" -Touch The Sky

If you enjoyed College Dropout like I did, you already know Spaceship is a great track. What makes the video brilliant is how the song doesn't get lost in translation, as is the case with most newly signed rappers when they're having their first run. Remember at this point he was an artist with his debut album, already platinum from his work with Jay-Z on the first Blueprint album; opting to show this side of a former life. How many rappers are focussed on coming out the gate all shiny like they've been getting paid since '89, even as the world is going through a 'recession'?

Then you have those that capture moments in your life when you felt like you were just stuck in a dead end and you wanted your own spaceship - clearly a metaphor for what meant the most to you at that time.

Eminem - 3 A.M.

Listening to this song for the first time, I was more excited about how they used the sound of a squeaking door being closed at the beginning of the song & how it complimented the music so well, I totally lost focus. I was too busy being excited about hearing a really dope new Eminem song over a Dre. beat. The beginning of the second verse was where I started actually paying attention again.

If this is where You pick it up the first time, then like me, given the picture he paints you could laugh and think, "Hey, another Slim Shady comedy rap delivered through dope wordplay." But whoa! The official video drops, & it becomes clear just how dark the song can be.
